In 2020: Obscene, Alexandra Bachzetsis explores the ambiguity of "scene" and "obscene". The performance focuses on the relationship between the staging of the excessive body and its consumption by the coveting gaze and overwhelming textuality. The work examines the problems of theatre as a manipulation machine in places of seduction, attraction, and games of sexual identity on the one hand, and the performing body in its own right as an alienating and limiting force on the other. Throughout the performance, the performers are confronted with their own corporealities - between intuition and gesture, between light and darkness, between score and script, between norm and form, between conception and action. Thus, the piece questions not just the subversive and normative aspects of performance art, but also communication through excess as a radical disruption of formats, gestures, and cultural patterns.
