something great
new school

The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on established production and performance practices has highlighted the urgency and importance of preserving live artworks for our sector and the art form as a whole. In a time when performing artworks and their lifespan is stil at risk, we need to brainstorm and test strategies that can transform the existing logics of performing arts production and dissemination.

Neue Schule - Pilotprojekt zum Erhalt von zeitgenössischem Tanz und darstellenden Künsten“ (New School - Pilot Project for the Preservation of Contemporary Dance and Performing Arts) is a project by Something Great aimed at fostering public debate and learning towards the preservation of dance and the performing arts. In close cooperation with academic partners from Germany and abroad, several project activities will be organised between April and December 2022, gathering artists, theoreticians, academics and students from all over the world. Namely, a program of webinars, the publication of comprehensive related essays on the Something Great website, and the organisation of live events (lectures and artistic research residencies) in the Summer of 2022 at Something Great’s new workspaces at Schloss Mentin, in Mentin-Suckow, Mecklenburg-Vorpormmern, Germany.

In this page of our website you can find information about the upcoming online and live events of the “Neue Schule”, as well as read some of the commissioned essays that will be published digitally within this project’s frame in the section “Reader”. Now jump in,  browse through, and check back often for new content.  Everyone is welcome to become part of our “’ New School”!
