New School - Pilot project for the Preservation of Contemporary Dance and the Performing Arts
(Neue Schule - Pilotprojekt Zum Erhalt von Zeitgenössischem Tanz und Darstellenden Künsten)

The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on established production and performance practices has highlighted the urgency and importance of preserving live artworks for our sector and the art form as a whole. In a time performing artworks and their lifespan are still at risk, we need to brainstorm and test strategies that can transform the existing logic of performing arts production and dissemination.

New School - Pilot project for the Preservation of Contemporary Dance and the Performing Arts (Neue Schule - Pilotprojekt Zum Erhalt von Zeitgenössischem Tanz und Darstellenden Künsten) is an initiative by Something Great aimed at fostering public debate and artistic research towards the preservation of contemporary dance and the performing arts.  With the support of Diehl + Ritter / Tanzpakt Reconnect funded by the Beauftragte der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien (German Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media) within the frame of the program Neustart Kultur, between November 2021 and December 2022, several project activities will be organised as part of the “New School”. On-line seminars,  artist residencies and lectures at the project facilities in Mentin (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany) will thus explore new possibilities for academic engagement with contemporary dance and performing arts, and allow all interested parties to become part of this “new school”.
