Dance Far Out / On.Site Program 2025

Something Great, in collaboration with Tanz Weit Draußen (Dance Far Out) and its network partners, invites proposals from artists based in Germany for a paid residency at the SG Arts Centre in Ruhner Berge as part of Tanz Weit Draußen’s Vor.Ort (On.Site) program. This program aims to bring contemporary dance and cultural exchange to rural areas in Germany.

The residency will take place from June 28 to July 13, 2025, at the dance studio of SG Arts Centre – SG Halle 1.  All  projects proposals must include a public presentation as part of Festwoche 750 Jahre Marnitz, a community festival celebrating Marnitz’s 750th anniversary .

What Are We Looking For?

Category 1:  Two-Weeks Residency with Public Sharing

Develop a two-week residency at SG Halle 1 focused on advancing a new production in its late-stage creation phase. Your residency must include at least one opportunity for community engagement. You may choose between: a dance workshop for non-professional community members of Ruhner Berge, either targeting children, teenagers, or open to any local residents interested in movement and creative expression; or an informal public showing of your work-in-progress, to be presented in a non-traditional indoor or outdoor venue in the village of Marnitz (to be determined based on your proposal).

Category 2: Workshop  &  Presentation of a Small-Scale Performance

Lead a minimum one-day dance workshop for non-professional community members of Ruhner Berge—either targeting children, teenagers, or open to any local residents interested in movement and creative expression but with no prior experience in movement. In addition to the workshop, your proposal should include the presentation of an already existing small-scale performance work that can be presented in a non-traditional space, either indoors or outdoors, and requiring minimal technical setup.

Category 3: Artistic Participatory Project

Develop and present an existing artistic participatory project previously implemented with non-professionals and that could be done with local community members of Ruhner Berge. The project should be developed during an artist residency at SG Arts Centre for at least one week (ideally two), culminating in a final presentation in a non-traditional indoor or outdoor space in the village of Marnitz (to be defined based on the proposal) and requiring minimal technical setup.

Who Can Apply?

Artists based in Germany, including all team members involved. However, priority will be given to applications by artists based in the federal states of the Tanz Weit Draußen network: Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Schleswig-Holstein, Brandenburg,  Baden-Württemberg and Hamburg.

To ensure smooth communication with the local community members participating in this program, the selected artist or at least one of their team members must speak German.
