To Rave the Racial

32’ Film / Film-Installation

Delirar o Racial (To Rave the Racial) is a film that explores spatiality without the traditional constructs of space and time. Davi Pontes and Wallace Ferreira explore the  idea that race transcends locality, challenging conventional understandings of difference, and dismantling the notion of space-time as the sole descriptors of reality.

In Delirar o Racial (To Rave the Racial), inspired by the stream of thoughts of the Brazilian philosopher Denise Ferreira da Silva, Pontes & Ferreira crafted a film free from linear constraints, departing from onto-epistemological foundations. In this film they use choreographic techniques to explore uncertainty and disorder, aiming to foster an ethical framework for Black lives that transcends temporal boundaries.

Davi Pontes is an artist, choreographer, and researcher working at the intersection of visual arts and choreography. He studied art at the Universidade Federal Fluminense in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, as well as at the Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espectáculo in Porto, Portugal. Pontes has been presenting his works internationally in art galleries and performing arts festivals since 2016. In 2022, alongside Wallace Ferreira, he won the Young Choreographers’ Award [8:tension] at the ImPulsTanz Festival in Vienna. His practice explores the intersections of choreography, raciality, and self-defense, seeking to engage audiences critically by prompting reflection on the production of history.
