THE CLOUD

THE CLOUD” is a performance that delves into the natural and artificial phenomena of clouds, exploring their complex material and symbolic relationship to human agency. Choreographer Zaides and his collaborators reflect on how, akin to natural clouds, many aspects of new technologies evade our full understanding and integration into daily life. They particularly highlight the elusive and expansive nature of artificial intelligence. Moreover, the piece incorporates the notion of "hyperobjects," a term coined by American philosopher Timothy Morton to describe phenomena or entities that surpass human comprehension and pose significant ecological threats, such as nuclear energy or climate change. Onstage, performers navigate a vibrant and intricate setup integrating video, archival materials, sound, lighting, text, and movement. Within this framework, they critically examine the potential for global collapse in the Anthropocene era. Ultimately, “THE CLOUD” proposes an unexpected hybridization between documentary and phantasmic aspects of its concerns and its dispositif, demonstrating what it seeks to consider and considering what it aims to demonstrate in real-time during the stage performance.
