Yoko Kawasaki & Yuya Tsukahara (Kyoto Experiment)
& This DJ Is Wonderful
The first SG Radio Show is here.
From the small village of Mentin in rural northeastern Germany — tuned to the world!
Listen now via the audio player on our website — top navigation on desktop, bottom on mobile.
In this debut episode, our artistic team members — River Lin, Cristina Planas Leitão and Rui Silveira — catch up with Yoko Kawasaki and Yuya Tsukahara, co-artistic directors of Kyoto Experiment, the festival that’s been shaking up Japan’s contemporary performing arts scene since 2010.
Yoko and Yuya talk about how it all started, what’s shifting across the cultural landscape in Japan and Asia, and what it means to curate a festival in dialogue with a city like Kyoto.
Also in this episode: a few notes from Rui, the host of SG Radio, on what’s happening at Something Great — and what’s coming up at the SG Arts Centre this summer.
Plus: a mix by our resident, This DJ Is Wonderful.
Tracklist coming soon.
Next SG Radio Show drops mid-August. Stay tuned!
About
Broadcasting from the SG Arts Centre in Ruhner Berge – or recorded elsewhere – SG Radio is a series of radio shows featuring exclusive DJ mixes and talk shows with guests from around the world. It offers a glimpse into what’s happening at Something Great – from events at our centre to others connected to our associate artists taking place elsewhere.
The talk shows feature voices and knowledge from diverse contexts – many linked to the contemporary performing arts – but always open to wider questions, reflections, and unexpected connections.
Musically, SG Radio is genre-defying and diverse. Some shows drift through ambient-like, downtempo, dubby soundscapes or deep soul; others explore experimental electronics, leftfield pop, post-punk, proto-house, techno, disco, and slowed-down rhythms – sometimes shimmering, sometimes raw, hypnotic or subtle. Each mix reflects the unique perspective of its DJ – whether it’s our resident, This DJ is Wonderful, or a guest invited to create a one-off set for the show.
New episodes are released every two months and streamed on our website.
