Hands Made
We touch the world, and in doing so, we either create distance between ourselves and our surroundings or forge relationships of proximity and intimacy. Increasingly, however, our touch is mediated by technologies that reshape how we experience both ourselves and others.
In Hands Made, Begüm Erciyas explores the faculty of touch by focusing on the hands.
Here, visitors’ own hands take center stage. Separated from the rest of the body yet in close proximity to each other, they become the focal point of a reflection on the past and future of hands—of handwork and the sense of touch. What have these hands been engaged in, and what will they do in the future? Who or what will they touch?
Hands Made invites us to reconsider our relationship with our hands, to imagine their transformation throughout history, and to reflect on their role in the society of the future.
