House Rules

These House Rules apply to all visitors, including resident and guest artists as well as their team members, at the facilities operated by Something Great – Performing Arts gUG (limited liability) on the grounds of Schloss Mentin in Ruhner Berge, Germany (hereinafter referred to as “SG Arts Centre”).

By entering the grounds and premises of SG Arts Centre and Schloss Mentin, all visitors agree to comply with the following rules:

1. Access and Use of Facilities

Visitors may only access designated areas where public events take place or which are part of guided tours of the premises.

Artists working or performing at the SG Arts Centre may only enter the work and accommodation areas explicitly assigned to them as part of their residencies and engagements.

Unauthorized access to restricted areas is strictly prohibited. The SG Arts Centre reserves the right to take security measures against unauthorized entry, including denial of access, removal from the premises, or – in serious cases – legal action.

2. Liability

Visitors, resident artists, and their team members acknowledge that they enter and use the SG Arts Centre and its facilities at their own risk. The SG Arts Centre assumes no liability for injuries, accidents, or damages arising from the use of the premises, including but not limited to public events, except in cases of gross negligence or willful misconduct.

This disclaimer applies in addition to on-site warning signs displayed during public events, as well as information provided to artists and their teams prior to arrival or during their stay. It covers all indoor and outdoor areas of the SG Arts Centre.

Furthermore, the SG Arts Centre is not responsible for the actions, services, or activities of third-party vendors, contractors, or external service providers operating on the premises. Any claims or disputes related to these services must be addressed directly with the respective provider.

3. Parking

Designated accessible parking spaces for wheelchair users are available on-site. While parking is provided on the premises, availability cannot be guaranteed. Visitors are encouraged to use the designated parking areas within Schloss Mentin or, alternatively, nearby public parking facilities.

Unauthorized parking in restricted areas of Schloss Mentin, including spaces that may block emergency exits, loading zones, or staff areas, is strictly prohibited.

The SG Arts Centre assumes no liability for loss, theft, or damage to vehicles or personal belongings left in parked cars. Visitors are advised to lock their vehicles and avoid leaving valuables unattended.

Whenever possible, carpooling is encouraged to reduce environmental impact and improve accessibility.

4. Conduct and Respect for Others

Visitors must not disrupt events, rehearsals, or operations. Mobile phones must be set to silent mode or turned off during public events. Unnecessary noise, loud conversations, or any behavior that interferes with performances, workshops, or artistic activities is not permitted.

Resident artists and their teams must respect quiet hours from 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM, Monday to Saturday, and all day on Sundays and public holidays. Noise levels in shared spaces, including studios and accommodation, must be kept to a minimum to ensure a peaceful environment for all.

All visitors, artists, and staff are expected to treat one another with kindness and respect. Discrimination, harassment, verbal abuse, intimidation, or any form of disrespectful or aggressive behavior will not be tolerated.

5. Event Attendance

Latecomers may be denied entry once a public event has begun. If feasible, entry will only be permitted during intermissions to minimize disruptions. Tickets not used due to late arrival are non-refundable, except in the case of event cancellation by the organizer.

For workshops or dance classes within our community programs, late participation is at the discretion of the guest instructors. If a participant is denied entry due to tardiness, no refunds will be issued. Participation fees (if applicable) are only refundable if the event is canceled by the organizer.

6. Admission of Minors

Minors may only attend events in accordance with the German Youth Protection Act (JuSchG). Parents or legal guardians are fully responsible for their supervision and must ensure that minors comply with the rules of the SG Arts Centre.

Age restrictions for certain events will be announced in advance. For events with age restrictions, the SG Arts Centre reserves the right to deny entry to minors without valid proof of age.

Unaccompanied minors may only attend events if explicitly permitted. The SG Arts Centre assumes no liability for unsupervised minors on the premises.

7. Wheelchair Users

Reserved parking spaces, wheelchair ramps, and designated seating are available at all events. SG Arts Centre staff can assist with entry and exit if needed.

Wheelchair users and their companions will be informed prior to the event about any accessibility limitations and emergency procedures. Visitors requiring assistance are kindly asked to inform us at least one week in advance so we can make the necessary arrangements for a comfortable experience.

8. Animals

Guide dogs and assistance animals are permitted at public events only with appropriate documentation. Owners must provide a Disability ID card and proof of the dog’s training. Guide dogs must wear a harness, and assistance dogs must be leashed and muzzled at all times. Owners are fully liable for any damages caused by their animals.

Pets, including dogs and cats belonging to resident artists or visitors, are only allowed in SG Arts Centre facilities with explicit approval. If approved, pets must be supervised at all times, and owners are required to clean up after them immediately. Owners are fully responsible for any disturbances or damages caused by their pets, including cleaning, repairs, or replacement of furniture or other property.

9. Prohibited Items and Materials

Weapons, firearms, fireworks, explosives, flammable liquids, dangerous chemicals, toxic substances, laser pointers, drones, as well as any unauthorized items that could damage facilities, equipment, or the environment (e.g., paints, glitter, adhesives) or pose a threat to the safety of people or animals on the premises, are strictly prohibited.
9. Cloakroom & Storage

Visitors may use the designated cloakrooms during public events.
Guest and resident artists may store their personal belongings in the respective accommodation areas and must not leave any items in the studios, especially not overnight. The SG Künstlerhaus accepts no liability for any lost, stolen, or unattended items of any kind. Passageways must remain clear at all times, especially during public events.

10. Photography, film, and audio recordings

If applicable, announcements or signage during public events indicate restrictions on photography, film, or audio recordings. In such cases, unauthorized recordings of any kind are prohibited.

The SG Künstlerhaus reserves the right to request the deletion of unauthorized recordings during or after the event.

11. Smoking & Vaping

Smoking, vaping, and open flames are strictly prohibited indoors. Rule-breakers will be held responsible for any cleaning or damage costs incurred.

12. Fire and Safety Regulations

The use of fire, pyrotechnics, and dangerous substances is prohibited in the facilities of the SG Künstlerhaus in accordance with the German Assembly Hall Regulation (MVStättV). Exceptions require prior approval from the fire department and must comply with German explosives laws.

Visitors and artists must adhere to all fire and safety regulations when using the premises of the SG Künstlerhaus.

In an emergency, the instructions of the SG Künstlerhaus staff, security personnel, or emergency services must be followed. Emergency exits must be kept clear at all times.

13. Compliance with Public Health Regulations

All visitors and staff of the SG Arts Centre must comply with all applicable health regulations, including, but not limited to, COVID-19 measures or other health and safety requirements imposed by authorities or the venue. These regulations apply particularly during public events and gatherings.

Failure to comply may result in denial of entry, removal from the premises, or other necessary measures to ensure the safety of everyone present. The SG Arts Centre reserves the right to implement additional health measures as needed.

14. Maintenance of Facilities & Cleanliness

The facilities must be used responsibly and kept clean. Damages caused by negligence – including damage to Marley dance floors – must be compensated by the responsible party.

Communal areas used by resident and visiting artists, including accommodations and studios, must be kept clean at all times. Waste must be disposed of properly in the designated containers.

15. Lost and Found

Lost items found at the SG Arts Centre must be reported to the Something Great team by email at contact@somethinggreat.de. At events, security personnel may be hired to ensure safety, direct visitor flows, and intervene in the event of disturbances. In cases of disruptive or dangerous behavior, the admission and security staff are authorized to take appropriate measures – including denying entry, removing individuals from the premises, or involving the police.

17. Denial of Access & Removal from the Premises

The SG Arts Centre reserves the right to deny access or remove individuals from the premises if they behave in a disruptive or dangerous manner, are visibly under the influence of alcohol, harass others, engage in vandalism, or violate these house rules.

Any form of theft, violence, property damage, or illegal activity will result in immediate removal from the premises. Individuals who are removed may be permanently excluded from the facilities, programs, and events of the SG Arts Centre.
