In The Other Side of Dance, Diana Niepce brings to the stage the voices of those often rendered invisible in the history of dance—bodies outside the norm. The performance is inhabited by the legacies of artists such as Artur Zmijewski, Bill Shannon, Claire Cunningham, David Toole, Neil Marcus, Michael Turinsky, Lisa Bufano, and Raimund Hoghe. Each of these figures, in their own way, give voice to the other side of dance, allowing a new body to emerge and flourish.
The work is structured around the study and in-depth analysis of physics and movement as expressed by artists outside traditional norms. Through an intimate process of appropriation and transformation, Niepce integrates these diverse movement languages, shaping them into a distinct artistic identity.
