Samira Elagoz is a Finnish-Egyptian filmmaker and performance artist based in Berlin and Amsterdam. Over several years, Elagoz explored and filmed encounters with men and first meetings with male strangers. Elagoz’s works combine theater, film, and documentary into a unique style of docu-fiction. Real encounters, in which Elagoz is always personally present, are at the center of the work. The films explore intimacy, masculinity, and the politics of the gaze—from both a personal and external perspective. Elagoz’s internationally exhibited works earned the Silver Lion at La Biennale di Venezia in 2022 for their body of work as an artist.
