Cock, Cock ... Who’s There ?
Cock, Cock… Who’s There? by Samira Elagoz is a 65-minute performance film that blends documentary, performance art, and personal narrative to explore power, gender dynamics, and the consequences of violence. What began as an intimate examination of relationships between men and women has evolved over the past decade, gaining new layers of meaning. Over the years, Elagoz has brought even deeper resonance to the work. By revisiting a piece that originally reflected on themes such as masculinity, relationships, and the female gaze, Elagoz gives the work a unique and personal dimension that further deepens and complicates its impact.

Created across three continents, the work follows Elagoz during encounters with men via platforms like Tinder and Chatroulette as well as in real-life situations. These interactions reveal the ambivalence of male-female relationships—their brutality and tenderness, power dynamics and vulnerability. Cock, Cock… Who’s There? is uncompromisingly raw, confrontational, darkly humorous, and deeply moving, challenging audiences to rethink intimacy, self-determination, and gendered power structures.

The work has received several prestigious awards, including the Total Theatre Award (2018) at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the Prix Jardin d’Europe (2017) at the ImPulsTanz Festival in Vienna, and the André Veltkamp Award (2017) from the Academy of Theatre and Dance in Amsterdam.

A Work in Constant Evolution

When the piece premiered, it already anticipated conversations that would erupt worldwide with the rise of the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements—movements that shook the entertainment industry and beyond. Today, almost ten years later, the work continues to tour internationally and is more relevant than ever, now offering a rare perspective on gender, trauma, and self-empowerment.
