Seek Bromance Egyptian-Finnish performance artist and filmmaker Samira Elagoz spent years filming and researching cis men while still identifying as a female artist. His previous works explored cis men and masculinity from an external perspective, but in Seek Bromance, a 220-minute performance film that premiered in 2021, the focus shifts inward as Elagoz documents his own transition.

Seek Bromance is a trans romance set at the end of the world, existing between insta-reality and sci-fi dystopia. Filmed during the COVID-19 break and the first lockdown in the U.S., it follows the relationship between two transmasculine individuals who meet at the start of the pandemic—both with a history of performing hyper-feminine characters yet holding differing views on masculinity. Through intimate footage, Elagoz and his collaborator, Brazilian artist Cade Moga, capture the journey of their relationship—from their first encounter to their eventual breakup—while also chronicling Elagoz’s long farewell to his femme identity.

Set against a hauntingly beautiful, deserted world, as if a virus had wiped out everything except them, the film portrays a love story where they can only be contaminated by each other. With just a car, some cash, and a supply of testosterone, they explore the intricate dynamics of masculinity and femininity, framed by the isolation and uncertainty of this extraordinary period.
